Position Overview
As the Senior Indirect/Telecom Tax Manager
, you will oversee the full cycle of indirect and telecom tax compliance operations, while managing a large filing portfolio and leading a team of Tax Associates and Tax Preparers. In this role, you will collaborate with internal functional groups, clients, and technology partners to ensure accurate filings, improve operational efficiency, and support key strategic initiatives across tax technology, automation, and compliance quality.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership & People Management:
    Supervise and mentor tax team members; manage workload assignments, KPIs, performance evaluations, onboarding, cross‑training, and cultivate a collaborative, accountable team culture.
  • Compliance:
    Oversee telecom and indirect tax compliance operations, including preparation, review, and filing of Sales & Use, 911, PUC, ROW, B&O, Utility, Federal Excise (Form 720), and Canadian GST/HST/PST returns.
  • Client Management:
    Maintain client relationships, oversee new client transitions, lead monthly compliance reviews, resolve inquiries and escalations, and identify process improvement and refund opportunities.
  • Process Optimization & Automation:
    Spearhead projects such as return automation, KPI dashboards, and tax‑technology integrations while collaborating with IT and Treasury to streamline payment processes.
  • Financial Oversight & Billing:
    Organize departmental billing, ensuring alignment between compliance and accounting through coordination with Treasury.
  • Training, Documentation & Development:
    Manage a comprehensive training program that fosters continuous improvement through performance feedback and skill‑building.
  • Audit, Research & Strategic Planning:
    Oversee and support audit responses and resolutions to minimize penalties, while collaborating with leadership on tax expansion initiatives.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in indirect and telecom tax compliance with proven experience managing large‑scale, multi‑jurisdictional filing operations.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience supervising, coaching, and developing tax teams.
  • Advanced understanding of SALT, telecom (911, ROW), excise, and gross receipts tax compliance and tax registrations and renewals.
  • Proficiency with CCH, Ceretax, Vertex, Avalara, Billsoft, Net Suite, SharePoint, Airtable, and Excel.

Preferred:

  • Experience in workflow automation or dashboard reporting.
  • Background in U.S. and Canadian telecom compliance operations, tax frameworks, and people management.
