Position Summary

The Vice President for Finance & Administration (VP) is an executive-level position reporting to the Co-Chief Executive Officer (Co-CEO) of Guttmacher Institute and will play a critical role in supporting the financial, technological, operational and strategic objectives of the organization. The successful candidate will be a forward-thinking and highly collaborative leader, partnering closely with the Co-CEOs and the broader Executive Leadership Team to steward Guttmacher’s resources and to support the organization’s continued impact.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with and advise the Co-CEOs and Executive Leadership Team on financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, cash flow, investment priorities, and policy matters.
  • Lead the 15-member Finance & Administration Division, driving vision and strategy for the division, fostering a culture of collaboration, and supporting staff growth and satisfaction.
  • Work with the three directors (the Directors of Meetings & Events, Finance, and IT) that make up the division’s management team to ensure effective and efficient management of the division.
  • Serve as the management liaison to Finance Committee, Audit Committee, and Investment Sub-committee; effectively communicate about and represent finance, technology, and operations at committee and Board meetings.
  • Evaluate and strengthen policies, internal controls, standards and procedures. Establish practices and implement systems to support high performance, efficiency and accountability.
  • Optimize financial systems; improve systems integration and automation.
  • Develop key performance indicators for finance, administration & operations, and IT to enable executive leadership’s understanding of financial health, operational performance, risks, and opportunities.
  • Oversee all accounting and treasury activities including monthly closings, grants, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management, revenue and expense reporting, tax filings, audits, etc.
  • Lead and oversee the preparation of the Institute’s annual and long-range operating and capital budgets including funder, grant, and project level budgets.
  • Work collaboratively with Development on grants and philanthropic reporting; oversee contracts management systems including cost allocation plans and integration into the organization’s financial planning.
  • Ensure executive leadership team members and their respective teams receive timely and relevant management reporting to support all funder and project requirements.
  • Manage relationships with third-party investment management firms, ensuring compliance with investment policies and that target returns are achieved.
  • Oversee the Institute’s annual audit including uniform guidance and project-specific audit requirements as well as all federal, state, and local tax filings including but not limited to Form 990.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations applicable to financial and administrative activities.
  • Lead development and execution of immediate and long-term technology strategies that drive operational efficiencies and reduce risks; develop and maintain a forward-looking technology roadmap that supports the dynamic mission of the Guttmacher Institute.
