A fast-growing private school network is seeking a highly experienced Director of Real Estate & Facilities Development to lead national expansion efforts. This role oversees real estate acquisition, deal negotiation, facility development, construction management, and site readiness for new school campuses across multiple U.S. states.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Real Estate Acquisition & Site Development- Identify and evaluate properties suitable for new school campuses
- Source opportunities such as churches, schools, office conversions, shopping centers, and land parcels
- Conduct site visits, zoning checks, feasibility studies, and market comparisons
- Build relationships with brokers, developers, and local real estate networks
- Maintain a national expansion pipeline across 10–20 cities
- Lead negotiations for purchases, leases, ground leases, and build-to-suit agreements
- Oversee due diligence: legal, inspections, financial modeling, and compliance
- Structure deals aligned with school needs and long-term sustainability
- Manage architects, engineers, contractors, and permitting teams
- Handle zoning approvals, variances, and educational occupancy requirements
- Oversee construction budgets, timelines, and compliance
- Ensure facilities meet fire/life safety codes and ADA standards
- Collaborate with the CEO, COO, and school leadership
- Provide weekly status reports and maintain the national expansion plan
- Represent the organization in meetings with officials, community boards, and vendors
- 5+ years of experience in real estate development, acquisitions, construction management, or school/facility build-outs
- Strong negotiation skills with experience structuring multimillion-dollar deals
- Proven record of delivering projects on time and within budget
- Experience managing architects, general contractors, and permit processes
- Ability to travel 40–60% depending on project phase
- Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable in a fast‑paced environment
