POSITION SUMMARY

The Association of Pro Bono Counsel ("APBCo") is a mission-driven membership organization of 400+ attorneys and practice group managers who run pro bono practices in over 140 of the world’s largest law firms. APBCo’s mission is to maximize access to justice through the delivery of pro bono legal services by:

  • Advancing the model of full-time law firm pro bono counsel
  • Supporting and enhancing the professional development of pro bono counsel
  • Serving as the voice of the law firm pro bono community

The APBCo Operations Director position is intended to strengthen the organization operationally, enhance our ability to support members, and increase our presence in the broader pro bono community, especially in support of our community legal services partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Implement membership-focused objectives, initiatives, and projects as outlined in the strategic plan, as may be adjusted by the APBCo Board.
  • Collaborate with Board in strategic planning efforts to ensure alignment with the organization’s mission and long-term goals, including working with the executive officers to facilitate and set agendas for all Board meetings.
  • Provide administrative support as needed to the executive officers, board directors and to the organization’s committees, task forces and working groups, ensuring effective collaboration and follow-through on initiatives.
  • Coordinate and monitor all internal programming and events for members, including the annual Academy conference. Operations Director may be asked to provide a summary of feedback to the Board pertaining to such events.
  • Oversee the organization’s communications, including management of the organization’s email account, website, newsletters, social media, and internal communication platforms.
  • Partner with the Treasurer(s) in financial management, including dues and event fee collection, budgeting, vendor coordination, and facilitating sponsor ships and charitable donations.
  • Collaborate with the Secretary in maintaining the organization’s member roster and work with the Board to support the onboarding of new members.
  • Serve as a public representative of the organization, attending external events and meetings as needed – including the ABA/NLADA Equal Justice Conference – to enhance visibility and cultivate strategic partnerships that amplify community awareness and impact.
  • Collaborate with pro bono community stakeholders to enhance the collective impact of member initiatives.
  • Ensure governance and regulatory compliance, including our commitment to diversity and inclusion throughout the organization, working closely with the Board and Secretary to uphold organizational standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success and sustainability of the organization. Operations Director is empowered with the authority to exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to all matters of significance

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

EDUCATION:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required. JD preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 7+ years in the legal and/or nonprofit industry preferred.
