SummaryThis position serves as a Supervisory Inventory Management Specialist for expendable (EX) assets/materials for the Logistics Service within James J. Peters VA Medical Center.
QualificationsTime-In-Grade Requirement:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement (01/07/2026). For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-9. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Failure to provide an SF-50 that demonstrates one-year time-in-grade will result in disqualification.
Specialized
Experience:
You must have one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Experience includes: planning, coordinating and executing an inventory and commodity management program; establishing procedures and overseeing physical inventories and supply reconciliations; conducting data/information analysis for acquisition planning;
planning and reviewing supply/inventory processes and exercising supervisory responsibilities.
Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree—or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree—or an LL.M. if related that demonstrates the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Transcripts must be submitted with the application.
Combination:
Applicants may combine education and experience. A copy of your transcript is required if using a combination to qualify.
- Supervises multiple supply series of consumable medical supply/inventory used in the healthcare system, as well as the micro-purchase program.
- Major duties and responsibilities include:
- Supply Management: responsible for inventory management, control, and distribution of expendable inventory; ensures maximum effectiveness; oversees the management plan for the commodity program; conducts effectiveness/efficiency reviews; oversees computation of requirements for supplies; may serve as approving official for reconciled purchase card transactions; oversees care and handling of specialized items; prepares/reviews submissions to obtain approval or funding; serves as central point of contact for coordination of commodity support and resolution of logistics problems.
- Returns - Recalls and Reutilization: manages federal and agency programs for the return and reutilization of medical supplies; approves emergent procurement decisions; participates in root cause analysis; serves as utilization and disposal official for excess consumables.
- Supervision: supervises employees from separate but interrelated units; makes recommendations for promotions, reassignments, and awards; develops position descriptions and performance standards; conducts semi-annual and annual performance reviews; assists subordinate staff with performance issues; schedules and grants leave; monitors overtime usage; resolves informal complaints and grievances; develops the ability of subordinate staff; develops individual development plans for professional growth; coordinates and integrates technical units to ensure compliance;
conducts on-the-job and in-service training; assesses training and educational needs and implements training programs. - Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Work Schedule:
