Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Sponsored Programs, the Grants Officer develops relationships with faculty members to assist faculty with activities related to external funding. This position oversees the processing of grant proposals, supports faculty in post-award grant administration, and serves as a liaison between faculty and the Finance office, HR, Accounts Payable, and other administrative areas within the university.

Essential Functions
  • Reviews and submits proposals in accordance with government and University policies and procedures.
  • Serves as liaison between the PI and funding agencies on various issues pertaining to proposals, awards, and/or budgets.
  • Provides training to new PIs in grant administration.
  • Develops or reviews/edits budgets for submissions.
  • Assists PIs and their support staff with post-award grant management and reviews award budgets to ensure proper award setup.
  • Works in collaboration with Finance to manage awards throughout their life cycle.
  • Researches and identifies possible funding agencies.
  • Works with Institutional Giving on proposals to private foundations or corporations.

Not responsible for supervision or oversight of others.

Additional Functions
  • Assists with developing supporting sections of proposals such as budget justifications, facilities, biographical sketches and current and pending/other support documents.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in research administration.
  • Knowledge and skills of grant funding policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with electronic proposal submission systems (Grants.gov, Research.gov, ASSIST, Proposal Central, etc.).
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with investigators and external members of the funding community.
  • Commitment to high professional standards of quality, integrity, and service.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters in Social Sciences or Business.
  • CRA Certification.
  • Active role in NCURA, SRAI, or other professional societies.
Salary and Benefits

Minimum Starting Salary: $75,000

Maximum Starting Salary: $85,000

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
