JOB SUMMARY:

Toolmakers work on new mold construction and the repair of molds in production. This individual also works with production in trouble shooting mold problems, maintenance repair of the molds and engineering changes on high precision injection molds.

Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Department: Tool Room

Reports to: Tool Room Manager

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate, debug and repair hot runner and valve-gated molds. (30% time) Essential
  • Implement engineering changes to the molds per the specifications given by the customer and/or Engineer. (25% time) Essential
  • Work with scheduling, production and engineering to ensure molds are ready to run. (20% time) Essential
  • Operate mills, grinders, lathes and EDM. (15% time) Essential
  • Utilize software programs such as IQMS to ensure information on molds is up-to-date at all times. (10% time) Essential

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent education and apprenticeship papers in tool making plus 5-years’ experience in custom molding environment.
  • Must be able to navigate in CAD designs and MS Office.
  • Must be able to prioritize workload from IQMS scheduling.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret data to identify and resolve problems.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to working situations.
  • Must apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

  • Physical Demands:

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    • Have the ability to lift, lower and carry 26-50 lbs. on a frequent basis (up to half of your day).
    • Be able to seize, hold, pinch and grasp items typical of this job with good dexterity with both hands, such as tweezers, nippers and small cutting tools.
    • Be able to crawl, crouch, stoop, kneel and bend forward/sideways without aids/assistive devices on a frequent basis (up to half of your day).
    • Have the ability to work in a seated position on a frequent basis (up to half of your day). However, the duration may be up to the scheduled work hours. Working while standing may be required on an occasional basis.
    • Have specific vision abilities required by this job. They include color and shading discrimination, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus. Must possess sight and hearing senses or by the use of prosthetics that enable these senses to function adequately.
