Position: CNC Lathe VTL & Large Turning Set-Up Operator

D.P. Tool & Machine , a family-owned precision machine shop serving aerospace, oil & gas, automotive, and medical industries, is hiring an experienced  CNC Lathe Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) and Large Turning Set-Up Operator . This is a hands-on role in our modern, air-conditioned facility just 20 minutes south of Rochester.

What You’ll Do

Set up and operate  large Vertical Turning Lathes (VTLs)  to produce high-precision components

Program and edit with  Mazatrol  controls

Create work holding solutions and select tooling for efficient setups

Load, unload, and secure large parts using overhead cranes and fixtures

Perform first-article inspections and ensure parts meet blueprint and GD&T requirements

Contribute to process improvements, Lean 6S, and ISO standards

Train and mentor co-workers as needed

Meet production goals for quality, throughput, and cycle times

What We’re Looking For

High School Diploma or GED

Strong  blueprint reading  and  GD&T knowledge

Proven experience setting up and operating VTLs or other large turning equipment

Comfortable with crane operation and handling large parts (up to 35 lbs)

Versed in  Mazatrol language  (required)

Mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and quality-first mindset

Preferred:  CAD familiarity, tooling knowledge, and prior training in Lean or ISO manufacturing principles.

Hours & Pay

Schedule:

Monday–Thursday 6:00 AM – 3:30 PM;
Friday 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM

Pay:  $22.00 – $28.00/hour (based on experience)

Shift:  Day shift in an  air-conditioned facility
