Manufacturing Engineer, Quality Engineering, Mechanical Engineer
At BETA Technologies, we apply our intellectual curiosity, passion for aviation , and commitment to sustainability toward a shared mission of revolutionizing electric aviation. Regardless of the position one holds, each team member brings their talent and desire to positively impact the environment and lives of others in a refreshing, vibrant, and inclusive culture.
Build engineers work with the design, tooling, supply chain, and technician teams to execute R&D assemblies on tight deadlines. You will be responsible for developing the process and tooling to build new structural assemblies with a scope that spans from high level design feedback that improves manufacturability to setting daily goals for technicians on a build.
How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
- Develop and implement the process to build first and early iterations of structures
- Design tooling that positions and moves components and controls their temperature as dictated by the process
- Review part, assembly, and tool designs and question constraints and complexity
- Manage the BOM for complicated assemblies and communicate build dependencies to supply chain
- Estimate build timelines and resource demands accurately and report progress
- Lead build efforts on the shop floor by receiving and giving feedback to technicians and catching build issues before damage is done
- Take responsibility for build quality and evaluate and report damage conscientiously
- Iterate during and after each build with new tools, new orders of operations, and modifications to assembly design to reduce build time and increase build quality.
- Use FMEA & DOE techniques to determine root cause and execute corrective actions of manufacturing process problems, workmanship defects, test failures, etc.
- Generate manufacturing assembly documentation to support future builds
- Design and implement manufacturing aids to assist with precision locating, drilling, fastening, and bonding of structures
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
- 2+ years of hands-on engineering experience
- Driven to solve hard technical problems with rigor and attention to detail — you don't let ambiguity sit
- Clear communicator who actively collaborates across disciplines and knows when to pull in the right expertise
- Comfortable fabricating parts, working hands-on with physical assemblies, and troubleshooting in a fast-moving build environment
- Strong understanding of composite and machined metallic component manufacturing processes
- Proficiency with CAD design tools; 3DX/CATIA preferred
Above and Beyond
Qualifications:
- Background as a build engineer in an aerospace or large-vehicle environment
- Hands-on composites manufacturing experience, including bonding, drilling, and fastening
- Ability to operate a manual mill and lathe
- Working knowledge of GD&T, metrology tools, and aerospace assembly methods
- Familiarity with ASTM, AS/ISO
9001, and Type Certification processes - Understanding of design for assembly, rate manufacturing, and mechanics of materials — with the ability to perform and present calculations
- Exposure to Mechatronics
- Knowledge of aircraft structures, systems, or interiors
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The physical demands and work environment described below are representative of what a Team Member must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. If you need an accommodation at any point, during the hiring process or on the job, please let us know.
We're glad to work with you.
Depending on the role, the work may involve:
- Indoor and outdoor work in a range of conditions, including hot, cold, wet, and humid environments.
- Movement throughout the day
, including varied amounts of walking, standing, sitting, bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. - Climbing ladders and stairs.
- Balancing
, meaning keeping steady to prevent falls while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow or slippery surfaces. - Handling objects
, including seizing, holding, grasping, turning, picking, and punching. - Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds.
- Safely operating material handling equipment
, such as forklifts and pallet jacks. - Working with small parts and components (some positions).
- Working around variable noise levels, fumes or airborne particles, and hazardous chemicals. These conditions require personal protective…
