Position Summary

The Associate Director of Communications will lead and coordinate Teaching Matters’ marketing, communications, and public relations efforts to raise visibility, drive engagement, and amplify the impact of our work. The role bridges creative storytelling, brand management, and strategic communications — turning insights from our work in schools into compelling narratives that inform policy, inspire donors, and attract national partners.

This individual reports to the Vice President of Development and Advancement (anticipated) and will work closely with colleagues across departments — particularly Development and Sales — to ensure all communications and materials reflect a unified, mission-driven brand.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy aligned with Teaching Matters’ mission and growth goals.
  • Strengthen and steward the organization’s brand identity and voice across all channels.
  • Collaborate with external designers and internal stakeholders to produce high-quality marketing collateral, presentations, and case studies that support program sales and partnerships.
  • Ensure brand consistency across all internal and external materials.
  • Oversee and maintain the organization’s website, ensuring timely updates, strong content strategy, and optimization for future-facing technologies, AI, donors and educators.
  • Produce and design compelling and interactive content that grows Teaching Matters’ presence across digital and social media platforms.
  • Track and analyze engagement metrics to inform strategy and content development.
  • Partner with the Development team to create compelling donor communications, annual reports, fundraising campaigns, and storytelling that highlight impact.
  • Align messaging across fundraising, marketing, and advocacy initiatives.
  • Work alongside external communications advisors to build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and thought leaders in education.
  • Help to facilitate and support the development of press releases, op-eds, and stories that elevate Teaching Matters’ expertise and leadership.
  • Support leadership and program staff in preparing for interviews, speaking engagements, and public appearances.
  • Collaborate with leadership to advance Teaching Matters’ public positioning as a thought leader in education equity and teacher development.
  • Translate lessons from the field into policy‑relevant content such as white papers, videos, case studies, and issue briefs.
Qualifications
  • 7–10 years of experience in communications, marketing, or public relations, preferably in the education or nonprofit sector.
  • Proven success developing and executing integrated communications and marketing strategies.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with an eye for detail and clarity.
  • Fluency with basic design principles and platforms (Canva, Adobe Suite).
  • Experience managing websites and digital platforms, including CMS tools (e.g., Word Press, Squarespace).
  • Familiarity with CRM, analytics, and social media management tools.
  • Strong collaboration and project management skills, with experience working cross‑functionally (sales, development, and program teams).
  • A strategic and creative thinker passionate about education and social impact.
