Job Title: Communications Associate
Classification: Full Time, Non-Exempt
Reports to: Director of Communications & Operations

Salary: $27.47-$30.22/hour (7-hour workday, 50,000-$55,000/year) plus a generous benefits package including full employer-sponsored health insurance and extended vacation time (see below).

Location
: NYC metro area, with presence in New Music USA’s Manhattan office required 2x/week. Regular attendance at evening performances in NYC is expected.

Position Overview

A core member of the communications team, the Communications Associate brings New Music USA’s communications strategy to life across all digital platforms, including social media, email newsletters, and our website. Reporting to the Director of Communications & Operations, this highly impactful role ensures clarity and consistency across all New Music USA’s platforms and works across the organization to creatively share content that promotes the work of New Music USA, its grantees, and the broader new music community.

We are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented team member who knows our field and is excited about leveraging their digital storytelling skills on a small, dynamic, and collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities Social Media Management
  • Content Creation & Production: Lead the end-to-end creation of New Music USA’s social media content. This includes coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to gather video and photo assets ; creating graphics; drafting engaging copy in New Music USA’s voice ; and taking non-professional photo and video at New Music USA and grantee events.
  • Calendar Management: Own the monthly social media content calendar, ensuring a consistent and strategic flow of posts that highlight New Music USA’s priorities and values.
  • Community Management: Act as the digital voice of New Music USA by liking and commenting on relevant posts, sharing our community’s content on our stories, monitoring comments, and responding to Instagram DMs to create a vibrant and inclusive online community.
  • Trend Spotting: Stay current with social media trends and bring ideas for thoughtful incorporation of trends into New Music USA’s social media strategy.
Newsletters
  • Draft and design e-blasts, including monthly Listening Forward and Community Events newsletters, biannual fundraising campaign emails, special event communications, and other newsletters, as assigned.
Website Maintenance
  • Serve as point person for all website updates, making content edits to newmusicusa.org (Word Press) as needed to ensure a current and working website.
  • Review submissions to New Music USA’s Community Calendar to ensure alignment with New Music USA’s goals and perform regular list hygiene as needed.
  • Assist with building grantee profiles ahead of grantee announcements.
Marketing/Advertising
  • Promote New Music USA advertising opportunities 2x/year.
  • Collect assets, place and schedule ads in newsletters and on website, invoice clients and coordinate payment.
  • Serve as end-to-end point of contact for all ad clients.
  • Support organizational internal data management across all departments.
  • Maintain an organized digital asset library.
  • Provide support for special initiatives and partnerships as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational development of New Music USA.
Required Skills and Experience
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in end-to-end social media management, communications, and content creation for a music or arts organization.
