Job Description & How to Apply Below
This role leads voice and messaging across NHL, MLB, and NBA campaign work, spanning brand campaigns, broadcast scripts, social copy, and sponsorship activations. It is a senior, largely self-directed position that partners directly with the Creative Director in market and global creative leadership. The role sets the tone that motion, design, and edit teams build around, and requires protecting craft under fast, game-driven deadlines.
The copywriter must be comfortable pitching campaign platforms in a room and adapting copy quickly for live sports moments.
- Lead copywriting across NHL, MLB, and NBA campaigns, spanning brand platforms, broadcast/video scripts, social copy, out-of-home, and sponsorship activations.
- Develop campaign concepts and messaging platforms in partnership with Creative and design teams.
- Adapt tone and voice fluently across three distinct league identities — NHL, MLB, and NBA — as well as individual team and sponsor brand voices.
- Present concepts and copy directly to internal leadership and client/league stakeholders, articulating creative rationale with confidence.
- Partner closely with Motion Design, Video Editing, and Art Direction to ensure copy and visual language land as one unified idea.
- Ensure all copy complies with brand guidelines TOV, league, team, and player-likeness usage guidelines, and legal/brand approval processes.
- Contribute to new-business and pitch decks, including big‑idea campaign territories and tone‑setting sample copy.
- 5–8+ years of professional copywriting experience, with a portfolio strong in sports or culturally‑driven brand work.
- Demonstrated experience writing for major sports leagues, teams, or sports‑adjacent brands.
- Proven ability to develop campaign ideas and messaging platforms, not just execute against a brief.
- Exceptional range across formats: long‑form brand storytelling, broadcast scripts, and fast, punchy social copy.
- A sharp ear for each league's distinct fan culture and vernacular, and the versatility to move between them credibly.
- Strong presentation skills and comfort defending creative work to Creative Directors and clients.
- Experience mentoring or providing creative direction to junior writers.
- Ability to work at speed on real‑time, sports‑calendar‑driven content without sacrificing craft.
- Meticulous attention to detail, brand guidelines, and approval/compliance processes.
- Experience writing for NHL, MLB, NBA, or similar major sports leagues or teams (strongly preferred).
- Access to DAZN.
- Up to 15 days of paid time off.
- Health benefits, including dental and eye care.
- Sick time package.
- Parental leave offering.
- Voluntary benefits such as basic life term, personal accident, and short and long‑term disability cover.
- 401(k) retirement plan.
- Family friendly community.
- Learning and development resources.
