The Financial Development department of the Capital District YMCA is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the new role of Donor Engagement Specialist. This full‑time salaried position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Position SummaryUnder the direction of the Director of Philanthropy & Events, the Donor Engagement Specialist will cultivate and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective donors to maximize their involvement and investment in the organization’s mission. The role focuses on providing personalized and strategic communication with all donors, ensuring they feel valued, informed, and connected to the organization’s work. The specialist will work closely with the Financial Development and Marketing teams to implement donor engagement strategies, enhance retention, and promote long‑term philanthropic support.
As an Association leader and key Annual Campaign fundraiser, the specialist is tasked with advancing a culture of philanthropy that creates robust financial support for the mission of the YMCA. The position is responsible for demonstrating YMCA leadership competencies to ensure the mission, purpose, image, and core values of the Capital District YMCA are conveyed.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office programs.
- Excellent human‑relation skills, good organizational and communication skills (written and verbal); ability to present before large groups, interact with high‑level donors, and represent the Y in a professional and appealing manner to all prospective donors, volunteers, staff, and the community.
- Dynamic problem solver with exceptional leadership abilities who can empower staff to provide superior customer service to volunteers, community partners, and donors.
- Possesses an entrepreneurial attitude seeking continual process improvement, revenue generation, and budgeting knowledge.
- Must have a personal vehicle and ability to travel locally on a consistent basis.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of the YMCA and its capacity to build strong kids, families, and communities. Ability to articulate and model YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
This is a full‑time exempt position with a salary of $62,354 annually, plus full benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision, Pension, 403B, childcare, and tuition reimbursement.
