Volunteers needed this Christmas season in the Bronx – December 19!

Bowery Residents’ Committee (BRC) is one of New York City’s largest and most comprehensive social service agencies, committed to supporting individuals who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of becoming homeless. Each day, we see how deeply compassion can transform lives—and it is the generosity of volunteers like you that enables us to fulfill our mission with both heart and impact.

The holiday season is our busiest time of year, and also one of the most meaningful. For many of the individuals we serve, Christmas can be a painful reminder of hardship and loss. Yet with the support of volunteers, it also becomes a moment of comfort, dignity, and genuine human connection.

Due to an overwhelming response, all volunteer spots for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are now fully booked. We do, however, still have openings for the pre‑Christmas event at our Bronx location on December 19
.

These gatherings bring warmth, joy, and a true sense of community to those we serve—and your participation would make an especially meaningful difference.

Activities can include decorating and set‑up of the service and dining areas, meal service, and post‑meal clean up.

If you’re interested in volunteering, please note that all volunteers must complete the BRC New Volunteer Registration Form (a link will be provided once you submit your interest) and attend a brief orientation session. The sooner you complete these steps, the more opportunities will be available to you. Shifts are filled on a first‑come, first‑served basis and tend to reach capacity quickly, so early registration is encouraged.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to participate. We are not able to accommodate large groups at this time.
