Participants of our 149th Day Habilitation and South Bronx Day Habilitation are coming together to learn to ice skate. These day habs are skill building programs where people with intellectual/developmental disabilities receive training for daily living skills, such as communication and self-preservation, community awareness, independent living and pre-vocational skills. In December to February, they are learning to go ice skating! Volunteers would go to Riverbank State Park on Wednesdays from 10am to 11:30am and assist the coach in teaching 10-15 people (with staff and other volunteers) in the fundamentals of ice skating.
Volunteers must bring their own skates and protective equipment for themselves.
- Assist in coaching 10-15 people in the fundamentals of ice skating
- Must own ice skates and protective equipment for self
- Be sensitive to people with intellectual/developmental disabilities
- Be available on Wednesdays from 10am to 11:30am at Riverbank State Park
- Have experience with individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities
- Willingness to learn
- Coaching experience
