Help Fellow NYC Residents Access Critical Public Benefits - Training Provided
The ACES Project at the Community Service Society of New York (CSS) is seeking individuals, age 55 or older, to volunteer as public benefit counselors. ACES volunteers assist with a wide variety of public benefits such as Medicaid, SNAP, and Fair Fares by completing eligibility screenings, assisting with applications, and advocating for New York City residents.
No public benefits experience is required. Volunteers must attend a free training series on Tuesday and Thursday mornings April 8 to May 22, 2025. Upon completion, volunteers are matched with agencies and hospitals within the five boroughs to provide public benefits counseling to low‑income families, older adults, and individuals with disabilities.
A personal interview, successful completion of the training, and a commitment of volunteer service for 4‑6 hours per week for one year is required. Applicants must be age 55+ and have advocacy, research, and computer skills. Your participation in this program gives you a chance to help others in a truly significant way.
