Founded in 1976, DOROT (“generations” in Hebrew) facilitates a dynamic partnership between older adults, volunteers, and professionals through programs designed to combat social isolation and loneliness and bring the generations together. DOROT is dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults in the Jewish and wider community to help them live more independently as valued community members. The agency is a recognized innovative leader in mobilizing volunteers and infusing social work into its service delivery model. Our vast offerings of programs are conducted onsite, in the home, remotely and in the community.
DOROT serves clients on the Upper West Side from 59th to 125th Street, and on the East Side from 14th to 96th Street. DOROT also has a variety of services for older adults in Westchester County.

DOROT Onsite & Special Programs Department is committed to combating social isolation among older adults by providing opportunities for connection, engagement, and support through discussions, learning, and the arts.
As a Volunteer Ambassador for Onsite & Special Programs, you will play a vital role in ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment for participants, both onsite and virtually, depending on which you choose. You will assist in facilitating smooth program operations, including attendance, participant assistance, and moderating interactions during sessions. Your warmth, friendliness, and attention to detail will contribute to the overall success of our programs and help fulfill DOROT's mission of fostering meaningful connections among older adults.
This opportunity is available for those located in Manhattan, Westchester and can be done on a remote basis as well.
- Attendance Management
- Take attendance for onsite programs.
- Ensure accurate recording of participant attendance and provide necessary reports to program coordinators.
- Welcoming Presence
- Serve as a warm and welcoming face for participants as they arrive onsite.
- Greet virtual participants as they join online sessions, offering assistance and guidance as needed.
- Assistance with Seating and Accessibility
- Assist participants in finding seating and ensuring comfort during onsite programs.
- Provide support to individuals with accessibility needs, including guiding them to appropriate seating arrangements.
- Q&A Assistance
- Assist with Q&A sessions during onsite programs, ensuring participants have the opportunity to ask questions and engage with speakers or presenters.
- Assist in moderating chat and facilitating virtual Q&A sessions during online programs, encouraging active participation from participants.
- Starting and Closing Sessions
- Help participants who arrive after programs start
- Commence virtual sessions punctually, welcoming participants and setting the tone for the session.
- Close out programs by thanking participants for their attendance and participation, providing any necessary follow-up information or resources.
- Onsite & Special Program Support
- Aggregate & share program feedback when applicable.
- Be in communication with OSP staff with concern or issues that arise in programs.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask.
- Comfortable with technology and proficient in using virtual platforms for online sessions.
- Sensitivity to the needs and concerns of older adults.
- Commitment to DOROT's mission and values.

The DOROT Ambassador in Westchester serves as a Social Events Facilitator. A friendly host makes all the difference! Support monthly gatherings by fostering a warm, inclusive atmosphere where participants feel seen and valued. Events last 60–90 minutes and include 10–20 attendees, held at our office or community venues. Volunteers help lead light activities, encourage conversation, and ensure everyone feels comfortable and connected.
