Position SummaryChildren’s Aid is a national leader in the field of child social services, providing solutions to ensure young people who live in poverty have the tools they need to learn, grow, and become the leaders of their own lives. We seek a dedicated fundraiser to join the Institutional Giving team and ensure the agency has the resources it needs to meet the demand for services.
Working in partnership with the larger Institutional Giving team, this individual’s primary responsibility is to oversee grant writing to create compelling, outcomes-driven, and client-ready letters of inquiry, proposals, reports, and other correspondence for a diverse audience of foundation and other funders (both current and prospective). Additional responsibilities include managing a personal portfolio of donors totaling approximately $2.5 million. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and strong writer who can use good judgment, exhibits leadership qualities, has exceptional project management skills, and enjoys cultivating and managing a donor base through strong communication and relationship building.
EssentialDuties
- Understand and promote the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures
- Manage a portfolio of approximately $2.5 million+ by developing, writing, and assembling proposals and reports to institutional donors, representing a diverse set of over 30 programs. Use excellent discretion and independent judgment in presenting program content and outcomes.
- Drive stewardship with funders through customized communication as well as the distribution of publications including annual reports, newsletters, and event invitations.
- Monitor compliance with grant deliverables and outcomes, and meet all deliverables on time.
- Work closely with program and fiscal teams to generate narrative content and project budgets.
- Meet annual prospecting goals through prospect research that uncovers the potential for $500,000+ in new support each year.
- Stay current on research, trends, and policy related to child welfare, education, early childhood, youth development, and social services. Integrate findings, including statistics, into work product; attend workshops and events, as requested.
- Act as a thought partner to program directors and leadership on funding strategy and funding opportunities, using noted research and field trend insights.
- As needed, travel to Children’s Aid sites across NYC (primarily Harlem, South Bronx, Washington Heights, and northern Staten Island) to meet with staff and gather information for proposal development and grant reporting.
- Serve as a thought partner to the Director and other Institutional Giving team members, and serve as a resource to all Development team members, by troubleshooting and collaborating on strategic approaches to achieve year-over-year private revenue growth.
- Meet culture of accountability in working toward individual financial performance goals.
- Collaborate with the Institutional Giving team to support timely prospect research, proposal writing, and grant reporting. Edit drafts and provide mentorship to other team members, as appropriate.
- Arrange and conduct site visits and assure timely, accurate, and strategic follow-up with funders and prospective supporters.
- Serve as a visible leader within the department and organization, modeling professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment in all interactions.
- Commit to use of Raiser’s Edge database to manage relationships, and track grants received, reports due, pending proposals, and prospects.
- Ensure close collaboration with other internal departments to create informed proposals responsive to programmatic needs, direction, and capacity.
