ABOUTTHE ROLE
In this newly created role, the Senior Philanthropy Officer will bring principal and major gift fundraising expertise to BCRF, serving as a gift officer on the major gifts team and as a strategic thought partner and portfolio manager to BCRF’s President & CEO and Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO). Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts, the Senior Philanthropy Officer will be a critical member of the growing Major Gifts team as the organization enters its first ever campaign.
This role offers an opportunity to work closely with senior leadership and high-net-worth donors, engaging in a variety of strategic and tactical work streams within the organization. In the future, it is anticipated that the Senior Philanthropy Officer could also manage their own donor portfolio of gifts at and above the $25,000 level.
This position is based in New York, New York. BCRF currently requires staff to work onsite for a minimum of three days per week.
Primary Responsibilities- Serve as a strategic lead and tactical partner in managing the CEO’s and CPO’s donor portfolios, ensuring timely and thoughtful engagement through proactive moves management, outreach planning and coordination, and seamless coordination of cultivation and stewardship activities.
- Execute comprehensive donor meeting strategy and preparation for the CEO and CPO, including donor research, preparing meeting briefings and materials, and developing ask and follow-up strategies and communications.
- Collaborate on donor strategy and tactical support, working with colleagues in the Development & Events department on meaningful donor touchpoints and opportunities for the CEO and joining meetings as appropriate.
- Oversee and manage all weekly development-related and stewardship communications from the CEO.
- Participate as an active member of the Major Gifts team, engaging in team meetings and activities, and working with other gift officers to ensure alignment across donor engagement.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO and CPO, providing counsel on donor engagement and solicitation strategies.
- Represent BCRF leadership in donor meetings as needed.
- Cultivate and steward relationships with major donors on behalf of the CEO, ensuring a personalized high-touch engagement experience that deepens their commitment to BCRF.
- As a member of the Development & Events team, participate in discussions to align major donor strategies, events, and other donor-facing activities.
- As needed, partner with other departments within BCRF on special projects.
You are a results-oriented fundraiser, grounded in best major gifts practices, with a successful track record over several years of securing six and seven figure gifts. You can develop and implement strategies and processes to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a pool of high-capacity prospects and donors. You have a passion for the mission and work of BCRF.
In addition, you have the following qualifications and experience:
- Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in frontline fundraising, with at least 5 years primarily focused in frontline major gifts ($25k+).
- Superior oral and written communication skills, able to express the mission and fundraising goals of BCRF with clarity and persuasion.
- Proven interpersonal skills to work effectively with senior leadership, donors, prospects, and volunteer leadership.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and anticipate changes.
- Demonstrated success in managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
- Discretion, gravitas, and professionalism when dealing with UHNW donors.
