Position Description
The Employee Health Nurse Practitioner evaluates new hire eligibility for medical clearance including subjective medical history, objective physical exams, assessment of immunity through titer values or vaccination history, TB screening and fit testing, color blindness, and eligible vaccine declinations. Assists with the progression of worker's compensation cases with the leave specialist. Reviews return to work documentation of employees returning from various leaves.
Assess incoming employees with acute complaints. Evaluate employees calling into work for sick leave and/or COVID symptoms. Assess, track and evaluate employee exposures in relation to various occupational diseases such as;
Varicella, TB, Scabies and blood borne illnesses through needle sticks.

Responsibilities
- Arrange and/or participate in all pre-employment physical exams and insures all new employees, contractors, or volunteers are processed in accordance with the Hospital's policy and regulations.
- Complete the pre-employment health questionnaire with each new employee and directs bloodwork in accordance with policy and standards.
- Tracks and administers all vaccinations required by NY State, Federal regulations, and Hospital policy.
- Maintains and updates confidential health records for every employee, contractor and volunteers. Collaborate with SBU for credentialed staff.
- Completes annual health assessments in conjunction with Physicians to ensure compliance with NY State and Suffolk County Health Department regulations.
- Review the annual health questionnaire to ascertain any health problems. Consult with physicians and counsel employees.
- Provide educational information about Infection Control, HIV, Hepatitis, etc. Provides referrals regarding health problems.
- Assists and provides guidance to employees regarding procedures for filing claims for disability, FMLA, and Workers Compensation.
- Coordinates and conducts respiratory fit testing on employees who have patient contact.
- Receives, investigates and tracks employee accidents or injuries and processes necessary report with the carrier. Supports data collection for OSHA form 300A Summary of Work-Related Injury or Illness as needed.
- Follow up on employees' health status and return to work date.
- Works in conjunction with Human Resources and the Physician or CMO (if applicable) in establishing new/revised health policies.
- Participates in Orientation and Departmental In-services as needed.
- Supports Employee Annual Education programs and ensures compliance.
- Addresses the special needs of employee populations served and assists in making reasonable accommodations for the hearing impaired, physically challenged or any other employee who may require services.
- Prepares and files required forms and reports as necessary.
- Writes order for necessary testing (bloodwork, nasal swabs), assess, diagnose and prescribe medications PRN for acute employee illnesses.
- Master's Degree and Board Certification in Nursing required.
- Registered Nurses License and BLS from American Heart Association
- Prior experience in an occupational health setting. Certification as an Occupational Health Nurse Preferred.
- Knowledge related to regulatory requirements of OSHA, Joint Commission and the Department of Health
- Knowledge surrounding disability, worker's compensation, and leave laws preferred.
- Computer knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word

- Organizational, multi-tasking and attention to detail.
- Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking.
- Lifts supplies/equipment
- Considerable stooping, bending, kneeling.
