What You'll Do- The primary function of the Registered Nurse - PD is to provide supervision to all clinical staff as well as staff from other departments working during specified shift;
Assist the Director of Nursing in directing and supervising Nursing Services concerned with resident care;
Staffing coordinator of his/her shift;
Evaluate and direct nursing care of resident and must be constantly available to the nurses in charge of the various units and know of changes in condition of resident and the indicated action. - Integrate the philosophy and objectives of the Nursing Home and the Nursing Department into the management of nursing on all units in the Nursing Home
- Assume the responsibility of the staffing of Nursing Services on the 3-11 & 11-7 shift
- Determine quality of nursing care by observing residents, charts, care plans, and by communicating with the staff and physicians
- Assist the Charge Nurse in assessment of needs, identification of nursing diagnoses based on histories, nursing problems and solutions
- Participates in nursing care committees as recommended by the Director of Nursing
- Assist with writing periodic evaluations and discussing individual goals with the other supervisors and charge nurses
- Work closely with the In-Service Director to provide programs suitable to geriatric care
- Report problems within the Nursing to Director of Nursing with suggested solutions
- Provide for continuity of care of all residents for three shifts with report to Director of Nursing
- Maintain standards of care for each resident in the Nursing Home
- Assist charge nurse in assessment of needs, identification of nursing diagnosis based on histories, nursing problems and solutions of the resident
- Correlate nursing plan with medical plan by reviewing written plan and checking orders
- Interpret care to residents, families, nursing staff and other nursing home personnel
- Participate in resident teaching programs
- Participate in writing guidelines for care plans and defining policies and procedures
- Discuss administrative and nursing care problems with other Nursing Home Supervisors and Director of Nursing
- Keep informed of new medical and nursing measures as related to the needs of residents
- Maintain an environment conducive to providing quality care
- Makes rounds to observe effectiveness of care and institute immediate changes as necessary
- Cooperate with attending physician during their visits
- Give care to residents who require nursing judgment and skill
- Demonstrate new nursing techniques
- Maintain a system for communication of nursing care information
- Participate in nursing care committees
- Maintain adequate records
- Report adequate nursing care information to other Nursing Home Supervisors and Director of Nursing
- Use Nursing Care Plan as a guide for reports, rounds, and conferences
- Share information with other professional disciplines, facility departments and community agencies
- Suggest areas for study and participate in nursing research
- Assume responsibility for teaching relative to planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care
- Assist with the staffing of other shifts, as needed due to call-ins
- Assign personnel to nursing team department on needs of residents and professional or technical competence of workers
- Identify problems in nursing care and assist team in assignment of personnel
- Report staffing needs to the Director of Nursing
- Participate in orienting programs
- Participate in In-Service Programs
- Supervise and counsel personnel assigned to your shift
- Create and maintain a working climate conducive to producing quality care
