About the RoleThe main component of this position is first‑assisting all specialties in our Surgical Suite. As a dedicated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, you will play a vital role in the surgical services team, assisting across all surgical specialties to ensure excellent service, collaboration, and patient outcomes in a fast‑paced healthcare environment.
What You’ll Do- The Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) serves as the point of contact for augmenting care needs and extending patient services provided by the healthcare team, exercising patient care and medical decision‑making autonomy within established clinical parameters regulated by the New York Board of Health Professions.
- Utilizes advanced practice skills to ensure efficient delivery of care to surgical patients in the hospital and cross‑covers surgical specialties as needed.
- Provides a range of diagnostic and therapeutic services including admission, evaluation, histories, and physical exams, diagnosis and evaluation relevant to the proposed procedure, development of a plan of care, intra‑operative technique and expertise, and postoperative care.
- Orders and reviews diagnostic tests, prescribes and manages pharmacological therapies, and assesses the effectiveness of the plan of care through documentation of patient outcomes.
- Participates in peri‑operative patient management in collaboration with other healthcare providers, serves on departmental and multidisciplinary committees, and engages in quality improvement programs and standards of care.
- Maintains required professional documentation and certifications (license, ACLS/BLS, DEA, etc.) and serves as a resource to staff, implementing educational programs as needed.
- License to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in New York State, prior to credentialing.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to providing patient‑first, high‑quality service.
- Comfort working in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
- Graduate of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program accredited by a recognized credentialing center (e.g., American Nurses' Credentialing Center or the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants). RNFA required for Nurse Practitioners.
- Master’s level preparation preferred.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a surgical specialty or other specialty service preferred.
