Under nursing administration and in clinical collaboration with a physician, incumbents of this class provide comprehensive primary care in the area of Wound/Ostomy. This includes health education, preventive medicine, management of communicable diseases, and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Incumbents provide primary medical care consisting of the necessary examinations, assessments, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Supervision may be a function of this class, and instructional guidance is provided to nursing and other healthcare professionals in the area of expertise.

Does related work as required.

• Provide comprehensive primary care in Wound/Ostomy in collaboration with a physician.
• Deliver health education, preventive medicine, and education on infectious diseases as part of patient care.
• Perform necessary examinations, assessments, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Provide supervision and instructional guidance to nursing and other healthcare professionals in the area of wound/ostomy care as needed.
• Perform related work as required.

• Valid license and current registration from the New York State Department of Education as a Registered Professional Nurse.
• Three years of professional nursing experience where the primary function was nursing in a hospital or health care agency, two years of which must have been in wound/ostomy care or a related area.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in nursing.
• Current Board Certification in Wound and Ostomy by the WOC Nurse Certification Board.
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.

• Previous Wound/Ostomy experience.
• Knowledgeable in conducting NDNQI Pressure Injury Prevalence Surveys.
