Base pay range$/yr – $/yr
Supervision- On Site Director of Nursing
- Deputy Director of Nursing
- Diagnose and treat health problems, collecting data, performing physical assessment, case‑finding, health teaching, counseling, and providing supportive care; execute medical regimens prescribed by licensed physicians or other healthcare providers.
- Direct and administer nursing care to patients, coordinating activities with physicians, administration, pharmacy, clerical, and correctional staff.
- Guide and direct nursing staff, ensuring compliance with standards, policies, and procedures set by NYC Health & Hospital Corporation Correctional Health Services and the Department of Nursing.
- Provide direct patient care as necessary, using problem‑oriented progress notes in SOAP format.
- Assign nursing staff for admissions, sick calls, treatments, medications, punitive segregation rounds, and follow‑up; communicate staffing problems to the On‑Site Director of Nursing.
- Screen patients with mental health problems promptly and make appropriate referrals; use therapeutic communication skills and interviewing techniques.
- Make rounds, assess, plan, implement, document, and evaluate unit nursing care; assist with staffing needs and orientation of new staff.
- Assist with quality improvements, provide documentation, and collaborate with the On‑Site Director of Nursing on patient care and unit administration.
- Coordinate intra‑disciplinary team, identify delegation opportunities, and supervise LPNs and NAs.
- Administrate medication safely, conduct mouth checks, and maintain standards.
- Participate in ongoing monitoring activities, peer reviews, and quality reviews to ensure delivery of quality care; recommend changes when problems are identified.
- Assist other employees as needed, maintain cooperative relationships with supervisors, patients, visitors, and Department of Corrections personnel.
- Maintain friendly working atmosphere, professional demeanor and appearance, and adhere to uniform policy.
- Accept constructive criticism and seek assistance appropriately.
Clinic and infirmary environment; constant standing, walking, frequent bending, lifting, and reaching; occasional sitting.
Ada Requirements- Heavy Work:
Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, or up to 20 pounds constantly.
- Valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.
- Valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association.
- Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse.
