Position SummaryThe Assistant Nurse Manager provides clinical leadership and management for a designated time‑period (shift) for a patient care unit, supporting the Nurse Manager in achieving excellence in patient/family service, staff development, and evidence‑based practice.

- Evaluates the performance and practice of designated personnel in a fair and transparent manner.
- Serves as role model and resource for staff, developing and managing employees through coaching, counseling, and progressive discipline.
- Monitors staff attendance and ensures appropriate staffing and skill mix to optimize patient outcomes and safety.
- Coordinates care delivery and assignment of staff based on patient needs and clinical competency.
- Assists in scheduling, payroll, and integrating services across the care continuum.
- Provides direct patient care as needed to support unit operations.
- Supports other unit(s) in the service.
- Holds self and others accountable for delivering exemplary care in a cost‑efficient manner.
- Assists with maintaining accreditation, regulatory standards, service standards, and policies at all levels.
- Communicates with clarity and integrity to build trust with stakeholders.
- Reports significant patient care issues, family concerns, safety, risk management concerns, and critical events to leadership in a timely manner.
- Participates in the drafting of nursing and organizational policy.
- Supports data collection and uses analysis to drive practice changes that integrate quality, safety, patient experience, and productivity metrics.
- Assists the leadership team in maintaining licenses, certifications, mandated learning, and content for unit staff.
- Fosters high reliability concepts within the unit/organization structure.
- Fosters a culture of inquiry, innovation, and transformation with a focus on the future.
- Participates in and fosters staff involvement in nursing research, quality improvement, and evidence‑based practice efforts.
- Leads and supports the development of new insights, designs, and programs for complex situations.
- Exercises independent judgment in the course of duties, including discipline of employees, evaluation of staff, approval of time‑off requests, assignment of work, and decision‑making regarding hiring staff.
- Current Registered Professional Nurse licensure in New York State.
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing.
- Two years of nursing experience.
- Certification in nursing leadership required upon eligibility.
- Ability to apply nursing process toward achievement of specific outcomes.
- Evidence of excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking, problem‑solving, and leadership skills.
- Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association.
- Physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities; ability to handle and move reasonably heavy weight.
- Master's degree in nursing or health‑related area.
- Two or more years of clinical practice in the care of the patient population served.
