The Medical Surgical LPN will assist in planning, providing and evaluating patient care as a member of the health care team. Collaborate with RN in development of nursing care plan. Observe patients for reactions to drugs, treatments, signs and symptoms, or other unusual conditions and immediately reports to their RN and understand the importance of immediately reporting to the RN team leader any observed change in the patient’s condition or behavior.
Duties/Responsibilities- Record all patient care provided in a precise and detailed manner following established procedures for charting.
- Use computer programs per policy and procedure as assigned.
- Administers medication in accordance with policies/procedures/standards of care and legal limitations.
- Assists patients in ambulation; transports patients.
- Demonstrates a concern for patient safety; utilizes proper techniques of body mechanics.
- Strictly follows principles of asepsis and infection control for routine cleaning and sterilization of equipment and supplies.
- Strictly follows principles of asepsis and infection control guidelines when performing patient care. Promptly answers patient call lights, whether that of assigned patient or not.
- Correctly identifies patient by name and for all direct care, procedures or treatments. Routinely provides for patient safety through preventive measures (i.e. siderails, restraints as per physician order, low bed position and safe transport to other areas).
- Demonstrates competence in giving and receiving report per department‑specific policy. Demonstrates an ability to work effectively and communicate frequently with other members of the patient care team.
- Handles telephone information with courtesy, accuracy and respect for patient confidentiality; receives information and distributes messages appropriately.
- Consistently communicates appropriately with patients; speaks respectfully and responds to patient needs or requests for assistance promptly.
- Provides accurate communication in verbal, non‑verbal and written form.
- Listen effectively. Demonstrates supportive and understanding behavior when in contact with guests (patients, visitors, clients, physicians, employees, volunteers, students); always displaying positive guest relations.
- Assists with ADL’s and personal patient care.
- Ability to create superior patient experiences while generating positive guest relations in an office setting is required.
- Ability to work effectively and communicate effectively in a team environment; continuously looking for solutions to improve patient care.
- Proficiency in medication administration and practiced phlebotomy skills.
- Professionalism and business acumen appropriate for working with guests, physicians, employees and volunteers.
- Ability to cost‑effectively awareness in use of resources/supplies.
- Graduate from an accredited LPN program
- Must be currently licensed in New York State as a Licensed Practical Nurse
- Current certification in CPR
- Unit Specific Orientation
- Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling beds, wheelchairs and recliners in excess of approximately 50 pounds with assistance. Requires lifting, carrying, repositioning, and transferring patients using proper body mechanics.
- Position requires attendance, as scheduled, to ensure requirements are met.
- Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, and infectious/hazardous materials.
