Nurse Practitioner

Sun River Health is looking to hire a Full Time Nurse Practitioner to join our team in Bedford Avenue, NY. A Nurse Practitioner, under the direction of a physician, is responsible for planning, evaluating and delivering the health care of patients on assigned service. Emphases preventative health measures and education of patients. She/he will perform other duties as assigned and in compliance with systems and job specific standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities for a Nurse Practitioner:

• Takes histories, performs physical examinations, gives immunizations (as necessary) and does patient education and counseling.
• Orders appropriate lab work, draws blood for lab work if needed, and performs some lab tests such as wet prep microscopic exams.
• Prescribes treatment for minor illnesses, and consults with physician regarding medication, chronic illness and referrals when appropriate.
• Maintains legible and appropriate documentation and reviews records periodically. Does follow-up of abnormal pap smears and reportable STD’s.
• Attends continuing education programs to increase skills and knowledge.
• Attends provider meetings and participates in quality improvement programs and team assignments.
• Identifies and categorizes each patient’s age-specific grouping of needs, such as those infants, adolescent, or geriatric patients.
• Follows OSHA standards of infection control under CDC guidelines endorsed by department, organization, and overseen by Infection Control Officer.
• Provides safe and successful performance, including meeting productivity, quality and patient satisfaction standards.

Minimum Licensure:
Valid license as a Nurse Practitioner in New York State and CPR/BLS

Required Skills & Knowledge:

• Knowledge of diagnostic and treatment procedures that nurse practitioners are trained to do and are necessary for practicing in health care centers.
• Competence in delivery of health care to patients (including preventative health education)
• Ability to collaborate with other members of the Health Center in order to maintain high quality standards and achieve client satisfaction.
• Bilingual in both English and Spanish (orally and written) is preferred
