Duties & Responsibilities

Purpose of Position
:
Under general supervision, directs the development, implementation and evaluation of the nursing regimen for patients/clients within an assigned unit. This includes diagnosis and treatment of responses to actual or potential health problems via nursing methods and techniques such as case‑finding, health teaching, counseling, and the provision of supportive and restorative care. Schedules, assigns, guides, directs, and instructs nursing personnel in nursing activities.

  • Performs major duties and functions as described in the Staff Nurse position description.
  • Coordinates, guides and directs the development, implementation and continuous evaluation of the nursing regimen for patients/clients within the unit.
  • Coordinates the preparation and maintenance of nursing care plans and progress notes on patients/clients to ensure continuity of care.
  • Reviews and analyzes trends relevant to delivery of nursing care services within the unit and initiates appropriate innovations or makes recommendations for needed changes.
  • Develops and maintains a system of evaluation of nursing care, practices and procedures, including evaluation of nursing personnel within a unit.
  • Conducts conferences to develop nursing care plans and to promote staff development.
  • Assists in planning, preparation, implementation and evaluation of training and educational activities for nursing practitioners and allied nursing personnel.
  • Coordinates and ensures unit participation in interdisciplinary health teams and conferences pertaining to the healthcare setting and systemwide initiatives that affect nursing practice.
  • Performs other professional nursing activities as delegated by nursing service administration.
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
  • Valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained through facility orientation or prior.
  • One (1) year of experience as a registered nurse.
  • Additional Salary Compensation

    In addition to base compensation, you may receive the following based on the Collectively‑Bargained Agreement:

    • Bachelors in allied health discipline = $900
    • Masters in allied health discipline = $1,200
    • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) = $1,800
    • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) = $2,000
    • Doctorate in Education, Nursing Practice or PhD in Nursing (DNP) = $2,500

    An annual certification differential ranging from $1,878 up to $4,878 if you hold nationally recognized certifications in your discipline or area of specialization.

    An annual nursing experience differential ranging from $1,042 up to $8,645 for up to 10 years of experience if you have outside nursing experience as a Head Nurse.
