American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift RN for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring recent PCU/IMC experience and a NY RN license in hand.
Details- Mixed acuity PCU unit caring for MS Tele and MS patients
- Patient diagnoses include surgical pre/post care for ENT, general surgery, trauma surgery, and ortho surgery, plus overflow medical patients
- Rare pediatric patients; travelers only assigned if experienced with this population
- Night shift, 4x12 hours (19:00-07:00)
- Patient ratios of 1:3-5 for days/weekends and 1:3-7 for nights, adjusted by acuity
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required to sister units including West 2, West 3, and the Observation unit
- Uses Epic for charting, Pyxis for medication administration, and SBAR for communication
- 12-hour unit orientation provided
- Active NY RN license required in hand
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- PALS and TCAR certification preferred
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience required
- PCU/IMC experience within the last 3 years required
- Epic charting experience required
- Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
- Strong MS Tele skills required including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Skilled in IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
- Experience with feeding tube care, continuous bladder irrigation, and renal failure management
- Proficient in accessing ports, blood product administration, and central/peripheral/PICC line care
- Skilled in starting IVs, phlebotomy, and heparin protocols
- Experience managing cardiac drips (titration required), PCA, and thrombolytic agents
- Experience with CVA, seizure disorders, and substance withdrawal care
- Ortho trauma experience including peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements, traction, and mastectomy care
- Respiratory skills including chest tube management, CPAP/BIPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy care
- Knowledge of isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac management
- Provide nursing care across a mixed acuity unit with complex medical-surgical and telemetry patients
- Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility
- Maximum RTO of 7 days
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Returning staff must wait 6 months system-wide before reapplying
- Scrubs must be any solid color
