Veterinary Assistant - Emergency

Overview

Blue Pearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our fast‑paced emergency + specialty facility in Brooklyn, NY. This associate will be cross‑trained in ER/ICU and Specialty services.

Thursday - Saturday + EO Wednesday 10 AM - 10 PM

$22.15 - $32.80 / hour (pay band is a starting point and depends on experience and advancement through our leveling system). Competitive shift differential pay is provided for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4‑hour minimum.

• Mon – Fri: 6 PM to 8 AM = $4.50 / hr.
• Sat & Sun: 8 AM to 6 PM = $4.50 / hr.
• Sat & Sun: 6 PM to 8 AM = $8.00 / hr.

• Triage emergency cases, assist DVM with crafting and reviewing estimates.
• Perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc.).
• Set up patients in ICU or inpatient ward.
• Discharge patients and handle client communication.
• Cross‑train throughout specialty departments to float based on caseload demand.

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list, and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly‑used medications, associated side effects, and monitor therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Conduct physical exams, recording vital signs accurately.
• Possess working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with ASA I or II patients.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in the designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
