Sign-on Bonus
Setauket Animal Hospital is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join their team. Qualified full‑time candidates are eligible for a two‑installment sign‑on bonus: $2,500 paid after 90 days and an additional $2,500 after six months of successful job completion.
LVT and RVT candidates meet the sign‑on bonus eligibility.
The Veterinary Technician supports hospital operations by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and exceptional service to our patients and clients. Responsibilities include determining animal requirements, conducting examinations and diagnostic procedures, assisting during surgery and operations, providing nursing care, assisting with feeding and caring for patients, maintaining medical supplies and equipment, overseeing triage and discharging patients, and maintaining patient medical records.
Essential Position Functions- Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations, interviews, reviewing care plans, completing laboratory tests and imaging.
- Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, drugs, vaccines, and bandaging wounds.
- Support patient examinations and operations by assembling required supplies and instruments, restraining patients, and aiding as directed by the veterinarian.
- Apply full knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, and specialized drug administration.
- Obtain and verify medications.
- Ensure patients have food and water, clean rooms and equipment, and observe clinical signs of disease.
- Fill prescriptions and administer medications, including logging and securing controlled drugs.
- Maintain a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing and wrapping instruments, sanitizing and disinfecting holding and operating areas, storing sterile supplies, verifying shelf life, and following standards and legal regulations.
- Maintain medical records by documenting patient conditions, reactions, and changes; update the database accurately and timely.
- Communicate pet owner status as directed by the veterinarian.
- Maintain equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional journals.
- Release patients to owners as directed; ensure each released animal is clean and properly groomed.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.

- High school diploma or GED.
- 1–2 years of experience with veterinary appointments, surgeries, and nursing care for hospitalized and critical patients.
- Must be a licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT).
- May consider an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Knowledge of the preparation, monitoring, and recovery of pets receiving surgery, as well as basic pet nursing.
- Demonstrate correct procedures in catheter placement, phlebotomy, emergency medicine, and digital radiology.
- Limit potential exposure to bites, scratches, and injuries.
- Restrain patients according to standard procedures.
