A Ph.D. in a life‑science discipline—such as biological engineering, biophysics, biochemistry, genomics, immunology, neuroscience, molecular or cell biology—or equivalent experience is required.

What you’ll bring to the team

  • A Ph.D. in a life‑science discipline (genomics, cancer biology, or neuroscience is especially desirable).
  • Proficiency in Python programming.
  • Hands‑on experience with genomic library construction—including RNA‑seq libraries—single‑cell genomics, and tissue processing.
  • A proven track record of collaborating with a wide range of colleagues, such as scientists, engineers, administrators, and engagement managers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong strategic and analytical thinking abilities.
  • Effective leadership qualities and a genuine enthusiasm for mentoring peers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, complemented by solid interpersonal and teamwork capabilities.
  • A commitment to nurturing and sustaining a positive, vibrant lab culture.
Your role includes
  • Work closely with the PI and trainees, providing mentorship and direction for projects centered on functional‑genomic technologies.
  • Supervise day‑to‑day laboratory operations while engaging in advanced imaging, molecular biology and data analysis work.
  • Execute and/or coordinate research initiatives, establishing and assessing novel laboratory methods.
  • Operate both autonomously and cooperatively with team members to advance the lab’s scientific agenda.
  • Instruct colleagues in technical procedures and intricate workflows.
  • Together with the scientific teams, monitor project progress to keep them on schedule, develop detailed work plans, and produce regular reports required by funding agencies.
  • Drive international collaborations, and present your work at conferences.
  • Prepare publications for submission, lead review efforts and drive towards paper acceptance.

Columbia University is a world‑leading research institution committed to harnessing the full potential of spatial genomics to reshape our understanding of cellular pathways, tissue‑level communication, and disease treatment.

Our mission is to share discoveries, tools, methods, and data openly with the global scientific community.
