Job Description Position SummaryThe Department of Genetics and Development is looking to hire a Staff Associate I to work in the laboratory of Dr. Ducy. The Staff Associate will have both administrative and laboratory-based duties.
Responsibilities- Perform routine molecular biology techniques such as DNA and RNA extractions, qPCRs and PCRs.
- Perform bioassays such as ELISAs, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and western blots.
- Plan and perform experiments under the direction of senior lab personnel, which include areas such as mouse genotyping, husbandry, treatment and diet administration, harvest, cataloging and processing of tissues from mice.
- Manage mouse colonies; record plugs and pup numbers; inject drugs.
- Record and track experimental results accurately.
- Assist with ordering and maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies, perform assays and maintain equipment or specific laboratory resources.
- Ensure compliance with animal and safety protocols and compliance.
- Assist with histology section staining and histomorphometry cell counts.
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, or biochemistry or Bachelor’s degree in another field with relevant coursework.
- Understanding of the fundamental concepts of biological sciences and at least 2.5 years of laboratory experience.
- Prior experience in molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis).
- At least 2 years of experience handling/genotyping mice and general colony management skills.
- Prior experience with gene expression studies.
- Highly motivated person with a strong background in molecular biology and mouse physiology.
- Prior experience with large datasets.
