Job Description
DescriptionThe Department of Chemistry at Columbia University invites applications for a Staff Associate II position under the supervision of Milan Delor. The position supports research on light–matter interactions in emerging materials systems using ultrafast spectroscopy and microscopy. The researcher will contribute to ongoing projects and support publication, proposal writing, and laboratory operations.
Responsibilities include:
- Applying advanced understanding of ultrafast spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, and materials physics to research problems.
- Conducting literature reviews to guide experiment design and identifying emerging methodologies.
- Processing and analyzing large experimental datasets using scientific computing tools (Python/Matlab).
- Maintaining laboratory instrumentation.
- Preparing research reports, figures, and manuscripts for peer‑reviewed publication.
- Presenting results at group meetings, internal seminars, and conferences.
- Communicating technical requirements and progress to supervisors and collaborators.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Physics.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong foundation in ultrafast optics
, spectroscopy
, and laser–matter interactions
. - Knowledge of semiconductor physics, materials chemistry, or nanoscale systems
. - Proficiency in scientific programming (Python, Matlab), data fitting, and signal processing.
- Strong analytical thinking and ability to work independently on complex research tasks.
- Clear scientific communication (written and verbal).
- Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to evolving research goals.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to interface with physicists, chemists, engineers, and external collaborators.
