Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Life Science Postdoc at Cornell University
Location: Town of Ithaca

The Laboratory of Integrative Physiology at Cornell University (
Selvaraj Lab
: (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate interested in fundamental questions at the intersection of cell biology and physiology. Current research explores mechanisms underlying cellular reprogramming, pluripotency, gamete maturation, fertilization, and early embryo development using cellular and large-animal experimental systems. Related directions include systems-level investigation of signaling, gene discovery, and protein function, with integration of physiological biomimicry to translate fundamental discoveries toward improving in vitro fertilization and pregnancy success.

The spectrum of work in the lab is intentionally broad and constantly driven by unanswered questions. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with the ability to independently process information, bring new ideas to the table, and creatively design and adapt methods to move a project forward.

Within the breadth of topics pursued in the lab, projects often evolve and are shaped by individual interests and emerging questions. Our overarching goal is to uncover fundamental physiology by breaking new ground and definitively explaining cellular-to-organismal mechanisms. We approach these questions using precise experimental techniques and, when necessary, develop new and rigorous methods aimed at arriving at unambiguous findings.

Depending on the individual’s interests, abilities, and progress, the Postdoctoral Associate will have independence to explore new directions and develop projects. The individual will have access to career-development opportunities at Cornell, and active career planning will be encouraged. There will also be opportunities to mentor and train a talented group of undergraduate students at Cornell University.

The start date for this position is negotiable. The position will remain open until filled.

Required Qualifications

A Ph.D. in the life sciences with a background in cell/molecular biology and organismal physiology is required. Experience or understanding in reproductive biology and systems physiology is desirable but not required.

Candidates should have the ability and motivation to learn rapidly, appreciate the historical foundations of a field while remaining current with emerging knowledge, and integrate information across disciplines. The ability to critically analyze data, rigorously document experimental results, and communicate findings through scientific writing and publication is expected. Candidates should have good communication skills and be capable of independently leading projects while contributing collaboratively to other projects within the research team.
