The Athenaeum Hotel Kitchen supports culinary services for all ten of the Chautauqua Hotel Company food service operations. The culinary experience is managed by the Executive Chef. During the nine‑week summer season the kitchen operates daily from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

About Your Compensation

Compensation for this position starts at $18.00 per hour and, with demonstrated experience and qualifications, candidates may earn up to $22.00 per hour.

About Your Workday
  • Creating and preparing pastry food service with the approval and coordination of the Executive Chef and Pastry Chef, prior to dining services, and plating items as requested during meals.
  • Work in a team environment with a high degree of professionalism while handling multiple priorities to produce efficient service.
  • Responsible for submitting orders for food and supplies necessary for running the kitchen.
  • May be required to supervise and train other pastry culinary staff to ensure they follow specific techniques.
  • Responsible for researching and developing recipes, continue to learn and test new recipes to keep the menu up to date and interesting.
  • Must practice pastry techniques to ensure all food items are visually appealing.
  • All other duties as assigned.
About the Referral Program

Chautauqua Institution’s Referral Bonus Program provides a $500 referral bonus (after taxes) for active employees referring a new candidate who is hired and remains employed for at least 90 days from the first physical date of work. For seasonal positions working less than six months, the new candidate must remain employed for at least 30 days from the first physical date of work and until the closing date of the season (the last Sunday in August).

Your Schedule

Seasonal employment offers flexible schedules, full and part‑time, during summer operations each year starting June and concluding in August. Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as a requirement. Typically work an eight‑hour shift with a start time that varies between 5:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

About Living on the Grounds

Chautauqua Institution may provide limited housing options on grounds or assist with locating nearby housing arrangements for select opportunities. Housing is not automatically available for many positions and may be at the employee’s expense.
