Retail Sales
Sales clerks perform a variety of in-store tasks related to both the products and customers. They are often the first point of contact for shoppers who come into a retail location, so customer service is a large part of the job. Sales clerks also perform some technical tasks.
- Greeting customers as they enter the store
- Answering questions from customers about products, sales and other inquiries
- Leading customers to the location of the products they want to buy
- Restocking shelves or arranging special displays based on sales and events
- Collecting sales and customer data
- Informing customers about special offers, discounts or loyalty programs that you want to promote
Strong candidates for a sales clerk position often have experience in customer-facing roles where communication, efficiency and service matter. Look for individuals who have worked in positions such as front desk associate, cashier or call center representative , where they developed skills in handling transactions, assisting customers and managing product knowledge.
Experience using point-of-sale systems, resolving customer concerns and maintaining a clean, organized environment can also indicate strong potential for success in this role.
