Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is a 100% employee‑owned environmental consulting firm with 21 offices across California, Pacific Northwest, and Southeast United States.
We plan, design, permit, mitigate, and restore projects across communities, infrastructure systems, open spaces, and wildlands.
Field Biologist (Part‑time, on‑call)Seeking experienced and adaptable variable part‑time (on‑call) Field Biologists to support upcoming fieldwork in South Florida.
0‑5 years’ experience and at least an associate’s degree or equivalent coursework in environmental science or related field and applied experience.
Priority to candidates with 2+ years of experience and bachelor’s degree or higher.
Preference for direct experience with vegetation surveys, boating and trailering, and/or wildlife survey experience.
Strong desire to learn and survey Florida Bonneted Bats, other bat species, or avian species via cavity surveys, camera peeping, and observation.
Project‑based position contingent upon award of the associated contract. Employment dependent on securing this work.
Must reside within a 5‑hour travel time of Weston, FL, and be willing to work remotely for a minimum of 5 days at a time.
Work every other week committing to 50 hours within weeks worked. Part‑time on‑call services greatest from December 2025 through June 2026, but periodic work may continue to end of 2026.
Valid driver’s license, own transportation to project sites, and possess a smartphone.
What You Will Do- Perform biological surveys of vegetation on spoil islands in the Florida Everglades to identify bat and avian species roosts and/or nests.
- Tree cavity inspections using an endoscope.
- Tree survey and inventory.
- Effective verbal and written communication with senior ESA staff, construction crews, project personnel, and project management staff.
- Enter data into an online GIS mapping application, such as Field Maps, Arc Map, Collector, or Survey 123.
- Other ad hoc tasks as needed.
- 2+ years of experience in relevant scientific or environmental consulting environment.
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental sciences, biology, or related fields.
- Able to work with staff of all levels and handle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced work environment.
- Valid driver’s license.
