Job Summary

Under the direction of officials responsible for campus security, the Community Safety Officer provides safety and security services, monitors access to college buildings, grounds, and sidewalks, and assists the campus community as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct periodic tours of buildings and grounds, checking doors, windows, and gates for security.
  • Report access concerns and coordinate responses or repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of tasks and incidents.
  • Respond to disruptive or suspicious behavior, utilizing communication and collaboration with campus resources.
  • Respond to fire alarms, investigate, and coordinate with fire department; extinguish fires if necessary.
  • Report malfunctions in building systems.
  • Assist members of the campus community and visitors, respond to emergencies, and provide First Aid if needed.
  • Inspect campus exterior and lighting, report concerns.
  • Escort and admit personnel as required.
  • Perform special guard duties in designated areas.
  • Maintain communication with security and safety departments via radio or in person.
  • Prepare incident reports following department protocols.
  • Work various shifts, including day, evening, or night.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications and Requirements
    • High School diploma or GED, with 2+ years of relevant experience.
    • Effective communication skills; fluency in English.
    • Ability to stay calm and act professionally during emergencies.
    • Valid New York State Security Guard License and Driver’s License.
    • Fire Guard Certificate of Fitness or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • 2+ years of security or first responder experience.
    • Experience with radio communication, surveillance systems, and fire alarm panels.
    • Experience in educational security settings.
    Compensation

    $32.21/hr regular rate; $25.77/hr probationary rate, with wage progressions. Final salary will be based on experience, qualifications, and other factors.

    Additional Details

    Position is full-time, entry-level, in the management and manufacturing job function within higher education. The role may involve working various shifts, including nights and weekends.
