FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt
Classification/Status: Full‑Time
Work Hours: Monday ‑ Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm (possible Saturday overtime)
Position SummaryPerform visual inspection of predefined construction areas, read and interpret utility maps, and use specialized electronic equipment to detect and locate underground utilities. Work outdoors most of the shift in all weather conditions.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Lift and carry moderately heavy objects (up to 50 lb) regularly; use basic equipment and tools safely.
- Walk and stand continuously for up to 8 hours per day on uneven terrain; perform manual labor under adverse field conditions.
- Follow verbal and written instructions and complete daily activities per schedule.
- Communicate orally and in writing; understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.
- Maintain punctual attendance on the fixed schedule and occasional Saturdays.
- Operate a personal vehicle (or drive Company vehicle) and keep it clean.
- Provide written consent for GPS tracking via Company‑issued devices.
- Pass the Northeast Gas Association (NGA) Operator Qualify OQ required tasks.
- Pass Random Drug & Alcohol Tests.
- Manage daily stress from workload and client/customer interactions.
- Apply knowledge of underground gas and electric utility locating.
- Consent to GPS tracking on Company devices.
- NGA Operator Qualifications OQ for tasks 21 and 70.
- Pass all required NGA OQ tasks.
- Pass Random Drug & Alcohol Tests.
- Handle stress from workload and client interactions.
- Knowledge of underground utilities (gas, electric, water, etc.).
- Pass pre‑employment drug & alcohol test.
- Valid driver's license with clean DMV record.
- Experience locating and marking underground utilities with multiple equipment types.
- Interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Code Rules 753 and 811 “Dig Safely.”
- Physically capable of field work: lifting, carrying up to 50 lb, walking, standing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and working outdoors in all weather.
- Follow verbal and written instructions independently.
- Complete daily activities per schedule.
- Communicate orally and in writing.
- Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.
The position requires frequent walking, standing, and manual handling of heavy equipment in outdoor, uneven terrain, often at locations without immediate access to office facilities or restrooms. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities in compliance with applicable law.
