Trailer Mechanic

PRS is looking for an Experienced CCT Mechanic to join a team working at the CSX East Syracuse rail terminal, a recession‑proof industry with Teamsters Union No. 317.

Prior Experience Required. Starting Rate: $23.

• Willing to work weekends; all shifts are Union bids awarded according to seniority.

Applicants must currently live within a 1-hour commute of the business location. Out‑of‑area candidates or those requiring relocation will not be considered.

The successful candidate will inspect and analyze malfunctions, complete repairs, and efficiently rebuild chassis and trailers.

• Service and repair all types of terminal equipment, including welding and minor fabrication.
• Troubleshoot and repair brakes, electrical, hydraulic, air suspension, and drivetrain systems.
• Rebuild components of the above systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance and service all terminal equipment.
• Work on non‑power equipment, including chassis, containers, and trailers.
• Change tires, troubleshoot and repair electrical and air systems, replace suspension components, align axles, and replace chassis tie‑down components.
• Perform minor welding on leg braces, T/L handles, leg mounts, x‑member repair and replacement, tackle main rail cracks, and straighten steel container panels.
• Patch aluminum roofs or panels; complete brake jobs; perform and certify DOT/FMCSA inspections; check plug and unplug reefers.
• Own own tools.

Possesses qualifications of an Apprentice Mechanic (B) and can perform duties without supervision.

• 2 years of prior CCT mechanic experience.
• Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.
• Ability to pass all pre‑employment screening requirements.
• Strong problem‑solving skills.
