Company Overview

C. Cooper Construction is a locally owned and operated fine homebuilding and restoration firm known for high-quality craftsmanship, thoughtful collaboration, and respect for the historic homes we are entrusted to work on. We partner closely with architects, engineers, and interior designers to deliver beautifully executed projects—from detailed restorations to custom renovations and additions.

We are looking for an experienced Staff Carpenter who can confidently take on daily carpentry tasks with minimal supervision, contributes positively to our team culture, and is eager to grow within a company committed to mentorship, building science, and craftsmanship.

Key Responsibilities

Independent Carpentry Work

Execute a wide range of carpentry tasks with limited supervision, including:

Demolition

Framing (basic to intermediate)

Sheetrock hanging & repair

Installation of windows & doors

Trim work, moldings, and finish carpentry

Insulation and general job-site carpentry tasks

Work closely with the foreman, project manager, subcontractors, and team members to help keep projects on schedule.

Communicate clearly when clarification, materials, or additional information is needed to complete work efficiently.

Quality & Craftsmanship

Produce clean, accurate, and precise work that aligns with our company’s standards.

Assist with custom millwork or specialty details under the guidance of senior carpenters or the foreman.

Prepare and organize materials, maintain a clean and safe work environment, and anticipate what is needed to keep the day running smoothly.

Support job-site sequencing by identifying what tasks can be completed independently.

Safely operate hand tools and power tools with competency and care.

Maintain, organize, and store tools responsibly.

Safety Compliance

Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA best practices to minimize risks and maintain a safe job site.

Required Qualifications

2–4 years of carpentry experience in residential construction, renovation, or restoration.

Ability to work independently on common carpentry tasks with minimal direction.

Proficient in basic layout, measuring, cutting, fastening, and framing methods.

Strong work ethic: punctual, reliable, respectful, and accountable.

Physical capability: ability to lift and carry materials, work on ladders, and be on your feet throughout the workday.

Reliable transportation to job sites in and around Hamilton, NY.

Attention to detail and pride in producing clean, high-quality workmanship.

Preferred Skills & Attributes

Experience with trim carpentry, door and window installation, or basic finish work.

Familiarity with building science concepts or interest in learning more about best practices.

Comfort reading basic plans, shop drawings, or site layouts.

Light mechanical aptitude (basic understanding of plumbing/electrical interaction points is a plus).

Experience working in older homes or historic structures is an added benefit.

Team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills and a positive attitude.

What We Offer

Competitive Compensation: $23–$33/hr depending on experience and skill level.

Consistent Training & Mentorship: Work directly with seasoned craftsmen and a project management team who prioritize teaching and skill development.

Supportive, Respect-Driven Culture: We value kindness, professionalism, and a team environment where everyone contributes.

Career Growth: Opportunities to advance into Lead Carpenter or Foreman roles as skills develop.

Project Variety: Work on interior and exterior renovations, historic restorations, new construction details, and custom millwork projects.
