NSD Counselor

NSD Counselor (1505) is a Per Diem Non-Secure Detention Counselor role at Together for Youth. The counselor supervises the daily activities of at-risk youth in a short-term residential detention facility, providing a safe, structured and therapeutic environment. The facility houses residents for short-term stays; staff ensure youth adhere to program schedules, maintain proper behavior, and participate in daily activities. The counselor works with leadership to address concerns and support the facility’s mission to foster a safe, supportive space for youth during their stay.

• Account for welfare and well-being of youth at all times. Model appropriate behavior standards for youths. Must maintain visual sight of youth in the program.
• Counsel youth on an individual and group basis to assist with adjustment/transition to the program. Ensure youth follow and participate in program schedules. Communicate concerns to program leadership.
• Assist with daily meal preparation.
• Assist with security and safety of youth and facility.
• Adheres to agency policies and procedures; follows and supports agency mission, vision and values including participating in internal surveys and data collection for continuous improvement initiatives.

• Minimum of High School/GED required.
• 1 year+ experience working with youth and families required;
  Associates Degree can be substituted for the 1-year experience (Human Services or related field).
• Experience working with at risk youth in detention/residential facility preferred.
• Successful completion of on-the-job training for Certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and First Aid/CPR certification following on-the-job training.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule with variable hours including day, evening, weekend, holiday and subject to call hours.
• Valid Driver’s License, with acceptable driving history to the Agency Travel is required. Ability to coordinate and plan travel for visits and appointments efficiently.
• Ability to work with economically and culturally diverse populations.
