Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Family Support Services Counselor - Bi-Lingual Spanish - Woman's Wellness - Hempstead. In this role, the successful Family Support Services Counselor is responsible for providing support for patients, community members and participants at Women's Wellness. This includes intake, screening, assessment and case management. Excellent motivational interviewing skills are required and an ability to help individuals access services such as housing, food security, immigration, public benefits, medical and school advocacy.

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for screening community members for public benefits such as SNAP, WIC, and Earned Income Tax Credit.
  • Assists clients in the application process for SNAP and other benefits.
  • Identifies available resources and makes referrals to a variety of public and community agencies providing food, shelter, clothing, medical, educational and other services; schedules client appointments; acts as client advocate in obtaining services.
  • Completes documentation in required systems in a timely manner.
  • Follows up with screening on referrals made through the Women's Wellness.
  • Attend staff meetings and other appropriate meetings provided by the agency.
  • Remains abreast of changes in eligibility requirements or application processes for public benefits.
  • Counsels clients on available resources, barriers to employment, independent living skills, and other areas involving defined problems or concerns; explains procedures, rights, and responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned by program leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Required.
  • 1+ years relevant experience working, ability to plan and manage, knowledge of Social Work methods and practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent writing skills and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Experience in providing services to an ethnically diverse community.
  • Ability to be a team player.
  • Ability to plan and organize.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Salary Transparency

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $50,219.83 - $62,921.60 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
