Position Summary

Under the leadership of the Director, Direct Services (SVR), the Assistant Director at the CUIMC location is an integral member of the SVR direct services team. The incumbent provides confidential, trauma‑informed, survivor‑focused services and resources to survivors of sexual, gender‑based, intimate partner violence, stalking, and street harassment. Responsibilities include crisis intervention and counseling, advocacy, support services, and participating in the 24/7 on‑call supervision rotation.

Responsibilities
  • Direct Services (40%)
    • Deliver crisis intervention, referral services, and case management to students who are survivors/victims of sexual, intimate partner, and gender‑based violence; stalking; and harassment.
    • Participate in the 24/7 on‑call supervision rotation and Survivor Advocate rotation, providing consultation, advocacy, legal and medical information, and accompaniment to students.
    • Provide criminal/civil justice advocacy, including support with police reports, forensic exams, court filings, and hearings.
    • Educate survivors on rights, responsibilities, and available services such as Victims Compensation and the Office of Victim Services.
    • Coordinate with law enforcement, Title IX, social services, and community partners to manage cases and report critical incidents.
  • Operations and Personnel Management (25%)
    • Allocate resources and implement the Columbia Health and CUIMC MOU.
    • Coordinate services across campus and manage content for AXIS TV screens.
    • Develop operational improvements, policies, and internal practices.
    • Supervise staff, evaluate performance, provide training, and handle recruitment and onboarding.
    • Maintain data, reports, and confidentiality in compliance with FERPA.
    • Provide guidance to Direct Services staff in the absence of the Director.
  • Training & Prevention (20%)
    • Assist in compliance‑based training efforts and facilitate skill‑building workshops.
    • Create and update curricula, lesson plans, and culturally sensitive trainings.
    • Partner with departments to assess training needs and develop outreach to students and staff.
    • Participate in required trainings and maintain certification.
  • Collaborative Partnership (10%)
    • Collaborate on strategic planning and develop guidelines with the SVR leadership team.
    • Support SVR programming and special events such as awareness months and consent campaigns.
    • Streamline access to emergency and non‑emergency resources with campus and off‑campus partners.
  • Other Duties as Assigned (5%) – Perform additional responsibilities as delegated by the Director.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in victim advocacy, crisis intervention, community organizing, or prevention education.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of sexual assault dynamics and effects.
  • Experience providing crisis intervention, advocacy, and referrals to survivors.
  • Commitment to anti‑racism and anti‑oppression in work with survivors.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Program and time management skills; detail‑oriented and multi‑tasking ability.
  • Experience facilitating group discussions and teamwork.
  • Ability to work in a multi‑racial environment with social justice focus.
  • Strong computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s or advanced degree.
  • Familiarity with victim support protocols, NYC service providers, and the criminal justice system.
  • Volunteer management experience.
  • Knowledge of best practices in sexual violence prevention, risk reduction, and victim support.
  • Experience working with college students and higher education institutions.
  • Community education and training development experience.
Other Requirements

Required to participate in a 24‑hour, 7‑day‑per‑week, year‑round on‑call supervision rotation. Normal business hours are generally 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday. After‑hours include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Tasks involve extended periods at a workstation, commuting in Manhattan, and responding to confidential information. Physical and sensory demands are described in detail. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
