Department: Safe Way Forward

Schedule: Onsite / Hybrid Schedule

Hiring Incentive: $1,000 after 500 worked hours

Agency Background: Mercy First is a not-for-profit human and social service agency that has been serving children and families in need since 1894. It continues to address the emotional and physical needs of children and families in Brooklyn, Queens and across Long Island through innovative treatments and life‑changing interventions. The agency serves more than 3,000 children, teenagers, and families annually.

Program Background: Mercy First’s A Safe Way Forward Program (SWF) provides child welfare‑involved families affected by intimate partner violence (IPV) with comprehensive prevention services, including case management and therapeutic interventions. The program serves 65 families in Brooklyn.

Position Summary: The Family Team Conferencing Facilitator works with case management staff to schedule and lead Family Team Conferences that help families identify needs, acknowledge strengths, and promote safety, healing, and improved relationships. The role requires adherence to reporting requirements and programmatic outcome measures.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) or related field with 2 years of experience in casework services (required)
  • Prior experience working with children and families impacted by abuse and trauma (required)
  • Previous experience leading group sessions (preferred)
  • Experience working with families affected by IPV (preferred)
    Bilingual Spanish/English (preferred)
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and commitment to anti‑racism work
  • Strong engagement, organizational, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of child welfare best practice standards
  • Flexible work schedule, including evenings (required)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Commitment to agency’s mission, core values, Sanctuary Commitments, and DEIB
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate community‑based, home‑based, and virtual Family Team Conference sessions in accordance with all applicable ACS, OCFS, and Family Court standards
  • Facilitate active participation of family members to build consensus and make joint decisions around service plans to restore safety and promote stability
  • Maintain fidelity to the FTC model, creating a strength‑based, solution‑focused atmosphere
  • Ask objective questions to initiate straight‑talk and guide problem‑solving
  • Use critical thinking to develop workable plans for the family
  • Complete timely and accurate progress notes and FTC summary forms
  • Maintain case documentation and data entry in Connections, PROMIS, and ASARA
  • Participate in weekly supervision, program meetings, trainings, and workshops for professional development

Salary: $56,650 – $58,710 per year
