SNAP Specialist (Russian Speaking)
Location: Forest Hills, NY
Job Type: Full Time, Hybrid
Schedule: Monday through Friday, Standard business hours
Salary: DoE
We are seeking a Russian-speaking SNAP Specialist to support outreach and enrollment for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. This role focuses on educating underserved communities, screening clients for eligibility, and providing hands‑on guidance throughout the SNAP application and recertification process. The ideal candidate is compassionate, detail‑oriented, and skilled in working with diverse, low‑income populations across New York City.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct outreach to community organizations, emergency food programs, and partner agencies
- Educate clients on SNAP rules, eligibility requirements, and documentation needs
- Screen, counsel, and assist clients using web-based tools such as Access HRA
- Provide post-application support and advocacy for disputed cases
- Offer case management assistance, including periodic reports and change forms
- Assist SNAP participants with recertification using online systems
- Collaborate with partner staff and internal departments
- Attend community events, fairs, and outreach activities, including occasional nontraditional hours
- Connect clients with additional benefits such as Fair Fares, tax preparation, health insurance, HEAP, NYC Care, and WIC
- Document all services in database systems, including Salesforce
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred
- Bilingual Russian and English required
- Background in public health, public administration, or human services preferred
- Prior experience serving low‑income communities preferred
- Knowledge of government benefits is a plus
- Strong computer skills and comfort using online platforms
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to provide presentations and conduct community education
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow regulatory requirements
- Ability to travel throughout the five boroughs as needed
