Volunteers of America‑Greater New York (VOA‑Greater New York) is an anti‑poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County, including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.
PositionRetention Specialist for the Career Access Program. The Retention Specialist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the long‑term success and job retention of participants enrolled in the Career Access Program. The role works directly with program participants, employers, and community partners to provide personalized support, identify challenges, and implement strategies to ensure participants’ continued success in their careers. The Retention Specialist monitors participants' progress post‑placement, resolves any barriers to success, and assists with ongoing professional development.

Minimum Qualifications- Associate degree or 60 college credit courses in the human services field, or high school diploma or GED with 2 years of relevant experience in workforce development.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication ability, including basic computer skills.
- Develop individualized retention plans for each participant, focusing on overcoming barriers to job retention and career advancement. Collaborate with participants to set goals for career advancement and provide guidance on achieving those goals.
- Provide ongoing one‑on‑one support to participants to address challenges related to their work environment, personal circumstances, or skill development.
- Monitor participants’ progress post‑placement, conducting regular check‑ins to assess job satisfaction and overall well‑being.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with employers who have hired program participants, offering guidance on accommodating employees with disabilities.
- Identify and resolve barriers to retention, such as workplace challenges, skill gaps, personal issues, or conflicts between the participant and employer.
- Participate in outreach efforts to expand the program’s network of employers and community partners who are committed to hiring and retaining individuals with disabilities.
