Position Overview

The Social Worker assesses mental and emotional functioning of residents, administers services, and provides clinical supervision to Case Managers through case analysis and service planning. The role includes direct treatment services, referrals, and crisis intervention.

Salary: $59,000

Major Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assess and evaluate existing, new and prospective clients/families referred by NYC Department of Homeless Services.
  • Develop individual living plans (ILPs) for families and provide therapeutic support as needed.
  • Provide clinical supervision to Case Managers.
  • Conduct clinical case conferences with clients in collaboration with internal staff and external providers.
  • Participate in clinical caseload conferences and staff meetings.
  • Responsible for crisis intervention and on‑call via agency phone as needed.
  • Coordinate mental health referrals and psychiatric care.
  • Attend trainings and consortium meetings with DHS and others.
  • Evaluate mental health status on admission by completing comprehensive evaluation (CFEs).
  • Develop a network of social services providers.
  • Develop and facilitate group meetings.
  • Monitor resident records for compliance and best practices.
  • Function independently during facility coverage including crisis procedures.
  • Regularly assess the safety and well‑being of all clients.
  • Participate in weekly individual and group supervision with Social Work Supervisor.
  • Assist with reports and program evaluation.
  • Review progress notes and service plans.
  • Monitors client compliance and develops strategies for engaging individuals with trauma histories.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Social Work Supervisor.
Education / Certifications / Licenses
  • Masters Degree in Social Work from an accredited university.
Required Skills And Experience
  • Three years of experience working with the homeless population.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and experience with and/or knowledge of homeless families, including LGBTQ+ and HIV‑affected, the elderly, and individuals with substance abuse and/or mental health issues.
  • Familiarity with DHS regulations and DHS Cares Reporting.
  • Clinical experience to include the ability to make psychosocial assessments and develop and implement individual living plans.
