Overview

The Center for Justice Innovation is a community justice organization that centers safety and racial justice. Since 1996, the Center has partnered with community members, courts, and the people most impacted to create stronger, healthier, more just communities. The Center’s operating programs include the Red Hook and Midtown Community Justice Centers, testing new ideas, reducing incarceration, and promoting community change. The organization conducts original research and provides policy guidance to justice reformers globally.

The Opportunity

The Staten Island Justice Center (SIJC) offers programming for youth and adults in Staten Island, with alternative community sentencing options and restorative practices. The Transformative Reentry Initiative (TRI) provides wraparound services including restorative practices, employment/educational support, mentorship, and social-emotional support. The Case Manager will work with program participants post-release to connect them with sustainable community resources. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Case Manager will support participants post-release and help build meaningful connections to community-based resources.

Responsibilities
  • Engage in one-on-one relationships with participants and their families, including scheduling and facilitating individual case management sessions.
  • Develop, facilitate, and coordinate group programming including workshops, restorative justice circles, community benefit projects, and group outings.
  • Co-create and oversee all elements of individual support plans, including meetings related to mentees’ well-being and family team meetings, and helping participants fulfill identified goals.
  • Provide comprehensive, trauma-informed, case management as needed.
  • Engage participants’ support systems (family, neighborhood supports, and school staff) and provide case management as needed.
  • Provide voluntary referrals to community-based services to address health, school, employment, housing, and food security needs, with follow-up communication to service providers.
  • Collaborate with Transformative Reentry Initiative staff to streamline internal referrals.
  • Utilize online databases to track participant activities and outcomes.
  • Participate in SIJC all-staff meetings, committees, and staff development activities.
  • Spearhead events and special initiatives at SIJC and in the community.
  • Operate a company vehicle for community outreach and client engagement and transport participants to referred services when needed.
  • Assist with loading and replenishment of materials in the vehicle.
  • Attend SIJC events or community meetings after hours or on weekends; perform additional tasks as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 3–4 years of experience in a social service setting.
  • Experience working in a court or criminal justice setting strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred.
  • Experience with motivational interviewing and other interpersonal engagement tools.
  • Strong knowledge of reentry, the justice system, Staten Island community resources, and/or restorative justice practices.
  • Ability to think creatively and critically about helping people overcome barriers to reentry and community engagement; capable of seeking guidance and making independent decisions when appropriate.
  • Sound judgment with a trauma-informed, non-judgmental “harm reduction” approach; strong communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to balance collaborative teamwork with independent work.
  • Experience with person-centered practices and language.
  • Demonstrated cultural humility and competence in working with diverse participants.
  • Discretion, initiative, and independent judgment within established program guidelines.
Position Details

Position Type: Full-time. Must be able to work nights or weekends, as needed.

Location: Staten Island, NY.

Compensation: $52,000 – $65,400 depending on experience. Benefits include comprehensive health care, dental and vision coverage, disability and life insurance, FSA, mental health resources, and a 403(b) retirement plan with employer contributions.
